I had a really good Independence Day weekend. Got to go out with my buddy, Troy, on Friday night, sans kids. Michele was up at her friend Heidi’s camp in Winchendon with the kids, so I was a pseudo-bachelor for the night. Troy and I went up to Shorty’s in Nashua and had a couple of beers and some good conversation. We’re thinking about working together on a couple of Internet project.
Saturday, Pepperell had their annual 4th of July parade, and it is always a big hit with the kids. It lasts about an hour, and a lot of the floats throw candy for the kids. Marissa and Carson were there with the Roberts’ kids Justin and Samantha. Another family, Nancy and Joe Prevo (sp?) and their daughter Maddie joined us. All the kids filled up the candy bags, and the parade was great. Went over to the Roberts’ house after for some lunch, then got ready for the big event - the Pepperell fireworks.
The fireworks in Pepperell are great. We got seats just under where they were being launched, so we were closer than I’ve ever been to any fireworks. You could actually feel the concussion of the explosions where we were. Scared the shit out of Carson for the first five minutes, but he got used to it, and everyone settled down to another 25 minutes of fireworks. It was a full 30 minutes of non-stop explosions. It really is the best fireworks display I’ve ever seen. The folks on the Pepperell 4th of July committee do a great job and deserve kudos.
Sunday went golfing at Amherst and shot an 88. After golfing, drove up to the Delaney’s camp in Winchendon. They have a great little house right on the lake, and we got to participate in Lake Monomonoc’s annual 4th of July boat parade. It was cool tooling around this very large lake (1,200 acres) with a bunch of other boats. Great day, and a great group of people.
Then, to top off thelong weekend, I got to go golfing at Oak Hill in Fitchburg on Monday (a very nice, friendly private course) and shot another 88. At least I’m consistent. Tom Rossi hosted Dana and Troy Roberts and myself, and it was great. A full 18 holes in less than 4-1/2 hours is a wonderful thing, especially when the course is in great shape and you’re not playing totally crappy golf.
Lest you think all is right in America, I found this story on Yahoo. Turns out, America is getting it’s ass whooped in the hot dog eating world. Why can’t we get a champion who can devour 50+ hot dogs in 12 minutes? Will noone step forward?
Have a good one,
Chuck
