Fostering Creativity in Children

A very cool ad from Japan (I think) about creativity and children:

I don’t want to spoil the surprise, so just watch it.

WTF… What Happened to Ashtrays?

OK, I know I’ve gone off on this before (see the video below), but I truly hate smokers who throw their cigarette butts out their car windows.  I can’t understand why they think it’s acceptable to throw lit garbage out onto the roads or the sides of the roads (which is usually dry grass!).  It blows my mind.

Get an ashtray!  I’ve got zero problem with smokers.  I think if you want to smoke, go for it.  It doesn’t bother me except in no-smoking areas, and if you’re outside or in a bar that allows smoking, then it’s my choice to breath the smoke.

But when you’re driving down the road, and you toss your cigarette butt out the window - still lit! - then it pisses me off.  It’s littering, and it’s a fire hazard.  Just cut the crap and get a damned ashtray already.

Anyways, here’s my video on YouTube:

Just have some common courtesy, smokers!

SurgeStix - Inhalable Caffeine Stix

SurgeStix

Wow, caffeine inhalers. What a really bad concept! As it is, I can’t imagine inhaling cigarette smoke into my lungs. Now, I’m going to inhale whatever chemical concoction they’ve come up to deliver caffeine directly into my bloodstream via my lungs? Have we become that lazy as a society that we can’t wait to drink our coffee or energy drinks to consume caffeine?

Must be getting old.

The Big “C”

Here’s a YouTube video I made about my first colonoscopy.

Hope you enjoy!

Never Be Late Due to Snooze Buttons Again

There’s a new clock sheriff in town, and his name is Clocky. This new alarm clock will actually run and hide after you hit the snooze button once so you can’t keep hitting the snooze button again and again. It can even jump 3 feet to get out of your way.

This is a pretty cool way to wake up, although it might scare the shit out of the cats and dog! You can find it at the nanda web site.

Scary Stuff About Chemicals

I found this video on YouTube by a toxicologist who discusses how many chemicals there are floating around us - in our bodies and in our environment.  There’s certainly a lot to chew on, but it makes sense to try and minimize our exposure to chemicals.  And, with what he said about fats and PCBs, I could be in some serious trouble when I get older!

Enjoy!

Weight Loss - Let’s Try Again

Well… I’m back on the weight loss wagon, and working with the Weight Watchers program this week. As much as I hate to admit it, I’m a big, fat slob at the moment, and the Super Bowl (and the ensuing weeks) did much to derail my weight loss efforts. Oh, and I have no willpower when it comes to food.

So, I’ve come back to the one “diet” that seems to work for me - Weight Watchers. If I keep track of my food, it seems to get it through my thick skull that I’m only supposed to eat enough to be full. It seems like a lot when I put it down on paper, but when I have it on the plate, the food portions seem lacking. But, I’ve had some success this week, so I’ll keep it up.

Here’s the latest:

New Start Weight: 242.5 pounds

Current Weight: 236.0 pounds

Total Weight Loss: 6.5 pounds

It’s not too bad (6.5 pounds in three days), but I need to get myself ready for the weekend. I have no problem sticking to the diet during the work week, but once I have all that time at home with the food, I crumble. Guess I’ll have to keep myself busy.

I have been exercising at least 5 days a week (LifeCycle and BowFlex), so at least I feel a bit healthier. I’ll be keeping it up (so to speak), and have a goal to watch myself until my birthday on April 13th. This gives me about 8 weeks to lose weight before then. My goal is to lose at least 25 pounds, which is roughly 3 pounds a week (for those of you who couldn’t figure out the math above).

Wish me luck!
